Treating old acne scars depend on the severity of the scarring and how much of your face it covers. You should always talk to your dermatologist about the treatment that is best suited for you. Here are some options you might want to discuss with your dermatologist.
* Chemical Peel: A chemical solution is applied to the skin. The chemical solution removes the top most layer of skin. This is a good option only if your scarring is mild.
* Punch Treatments: This is a surgical treatment, done under an anesthesia. The surgeon will use a punch tool to physically cutting the entire scar and then the skin will be stitched back together leaving less noticeable scar.
* Subcision: This method uses needle to detached the upper layer of skin from the deeper tissue. This allows the blood to flood into the opening in the treated areas.
* Dermbrasion: This method removes the top most layer of skin using a rapid rotating brush. This is a painful procedure that require a long recovery time. Some people found this unuseful due to the old scar grow back over time.
* Laser Resurfacing: This is very similar to dermbrasion but instead of using brush , lasers are used. The result appear to be similar to those undergo the dermbrasion. The scar might have a chance to grow back.
* Augmentation: This methods used fat or collagen and injected to the scars. This causes the scar to raise and making it less noticeable.
These are just some of few options that you can account for. They all have there own pros and cons. When you do decide on the treatment that is right for you, you will need to take this into account; what is your scarring type, the invasiveness of the procedure, the cost of the procedure and follow up committed for that procedure.
